What size and material of (Planter) pot would you recommend for anchoring a vertical 8 foot wooden 4x4 used to hold 2 large brackets to hold birdfeeders. I envision putting concrete in the pot to hold up the 4x4 and provide weight to keep it from tipping. Would be used outside all winter with temps down to 10 degrees. Thank you

you can use an ornamental plastic/fibre glass planter 15-25litres [5 gallons] or more. Filled with concrete would work. but go for a shape that has a quite wide base for extra stability. One of my brothers has something like it.
In the uk you can buy premix concrete that absorbs water for the atmosphere so you don't have to add extra water. or there are premixes that you do add water too.

2 concrete construction cinder blocks should do it. They're heavy, sturdy & nothing will move it. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes.
