Hi guys/girls, I have a little patch of earth triangular shape outside my front door. For the past 2/3 years, I have had lavender in it. But now the lavender is looking sick and I need a change. It is about two meters long at its widest point. I am looking to replace it with a single evergreen shrub, that flowers and has fragrance. Any tips will be welcome. I am getting rid of the old soil and putting fresh compost in.

Fabulous, I know of a local garden centre that sells these. I have several in my back garden never even gave that one a thought.

Take a look at Tea Olive. It's a tough, dense evergreen shrub (can be a small tree) with wonderfully fragrant flowers that will captivate you, inspire you, intoxicate you, intrigue you & sweep you away to lands unknown :). It's very popular in the Carolinas which have a climate similar to UK. Blooms when nothing else will. I've seen it in yellow, orange, white & cream. My friend Jim made a video about Tea Olive and he can tell you about it better than I can. So here is his video.

Coronilla valentina glauca 'Citrina'. Perfect size for that spot! And can't be beaten for winter scent and pretty evergreen glaucous foliage.

I love Skimmia as they are evergreen with fragrant flowers in mid spring and if you buy a female variety or one of the self fertile ones you will get berries too.
