Could anyone identify this pretty tree please. It appeared a year or two ago - I don't remember planting it - and has shot up this year. It only flowers for a short time.

Certainly is an Amelanchier but don't know which one. it has lovely spring and autumn foliage as well as edible berries in mid/late summer.

Thank you both so much for that information. I had never heard of it so looked in my Tree and Shrub book and there it is.

Looks like Amelanchier, maybe A. lamarckii
