next door had work done on bathroom and the polysterene wall insulation beads have leaked over the whole garden, thousands of them. I have tried picking them up but it is endless task, any advice pls

I would try to eradicate the foam as much as possible. It will kill anything that tries to ingest it - earthworms, birds, squirrels and various other life forms. Polystyrene is a synthetic hydrocarbon and is not biodegradable - an environmental hazard in many ways.

if the soil is firm you could try a light vacuuming, the beads are very light so they may suck up ok.
if that doesn't work I'd be tempted just to dig them in along with a good mulch.
