Hi just a quick question. I have a clematis montana, fully grown . It’s become entangled with a couple of pyracantha and a California glory. The whole thing has become pretty wild and everything needs chopping back big time. I’ll loose most of the clematis (which is very woody at the back now)but if I wait until it’s flowered before chopping back will i totally loose it ? Many thanks.

Husband did mine last year it was just strating to fade he said he needed to see where it was. I would have waited until after flowering then cut it down to 3 ft and the stems were thicker than my wrist. New growth ensued and the new stuff is full of buds. So enjoy the flowers and then give it a good haircut.
