I have a small acer plant in a tub with bedding plants around it. Now the leaves at the tips of the branches are looking very shrivelled. The plant is in a shady fairly sheltered spot. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong, please? Many thanks in anticipation of your advice! Ann

Wind can cause the tips to shrivel like this, as well as hot sun. Don't feed it at all now, its far too late, any feeding should have been finished by mid July. It may just be that your Acer is starting to "autumn" a bit, as we've had a few cooler nights, and the leaves will drop off within the next 6 weeks anyway. It may also be that the pot isn't big enough for the Acer now, particularly with other plants growing in the same pot, so you might want to check the rootball when you bin the bedding in a couple of weeks, possibly repot afterwards.
