I'm not sure what's eating your strawberry plants but please don't pinch out the flower heads - they'll be your strawberries in the very near future. Could it be that slugs/snails are eating the leaves? I only have them eating the fruit on my plants - they tend to leave the rest of the plant in my garden.

Don't pinch the flower heads. That's the whole point of growing strawberries. Some leaf damage is unavoidable. Everybody loves strawberries, some prefer the leaves. The damage isn't significant and the plants look healthy. They'll grow new leaves. You can spray with soapy water.

the notches are typical of vine weevil. keep checking the plants by pulling them gently. if they pull out and have no/poor roots with 1 cm white grubs then Vine weevils are the culprit.
the slits are typical of hailstone damage.

Thanks Bathgate the reason I asked about the flower heads is that I thought that if you nipped them the plant would get bushier and produce more fruits chickweed you're right found some snails hiding in the frame of the cold frame!!they were promptly evicted lol seaburngirl I've gave them a pull no sign of white grubs and would you believe we had a hail storm last week and I forgot to put them under cover so good spot now where did I put the fairy liquid
