Earlier this week I asked if anyone could ID a tree. I now have a couple more photos including the trunk. Can anyone ID this tree, my boss walks the dog along the road and is thinking of getting one for her garden.

Has the appearance of a species of Beech tree. Also it appears to have peeling bark in many areas which may mean it’s under a heavy fungal attack.

I don't think the bark is right for beech. Have you seen any flowers on it (they may well be pretty inconspicuous)
Is hornbeam a possibility?
