I can't believe I can't identify this plant. I feel as if I ought to know the name but can't find it in any of my gardening books. Can anyone help?

Yes, it is Stachys Byzantina known as Lambs Ears. The bees love it and will stay with the flowers right to the end so don't cut back until flowering is well finished.

Although sometimes they don't flower - depending on where they are planted! Another spreader, but controllable.

There is also a non-flowering clone called 'Silver Carpet'
