welcome to GoY. I do the same as bizzyb. the grit/sand is really important. they have an odd sell, foxy' so dont be put off by that.

plant when bulbs are available, mine are about 10 inches deep. Top-Tip : plant them on a good handful of grit & on their sides before filling the planting holes. This reduces the risk of rotting.
