Hello,
I have just bought some heather which I understand requires ericaceous soil.
Would it be better to plant it in a container of ericaceous soil or plant in the garden adding some of the ericaceous soil to the hole I plant it in ?

Erica carnea will grow in mildly alkaline soil. No point wasting money on ericaceous compost to add to the soil, any lime in the surrounds will leach into the planting hole over time in any case.
