Whilst visiting NT Oxborough Hall this summer, we saw a large shrub with white catkin like flowers, but with a soft holly shaped leaf. It lookes like a white waterfall. Can you tell me what it is and is it generally available or only via a specialist grower

Various things spring to mind. Check out Itea ilicifolia or Itea virginica or maybe Garrya elliptica.

With White flowers? Mahonia are yellow.

I will pop in next summer when i'm passing to have a look Allenbu , it sounds like a Garrya elliptica to me as well ...... I can't remember seeing it on my last visit , it was probably the wrong time for it .....
