May next year, after they've come in to new growth, give 'em a 'damn good hiding' , a hard prune, and they'll regenerate from lower down, and thicken up. I've seen them cut to the floor without ill effect, the resultant growth luxurious and thick to a couple of feet tall by the end of the same year, so they'll take a severe cut. Phil J
