i have a gravel garden and all round the edge i am seeing small mounds of earth in different positions every morning so i hose them away and replace gravel but more appear but only round the edgehas anyone out there any suggestions please

thanks for suggestions do worms make quite large mounds as they are about as big as a dinner plate round

Worm casts was my first thought too, though I would have thought you'd have recognised those for what they were, Walto, so the other possibility is squirrels burying things? If it is worms, and you have a membrane under your gravel, or the gravel layer is sharp and more than an inch deep, the worms are coming up where they can, which is right at the edges.

Ah, that's been added since, sid, so unless they're mutant worms from another planet, then moles are more likely, Walto. I'm not aware of any cure as such, though there are "mole scarers" on the market.

thanks for all answers guess i could have mutant worms as they would fit in with me haha but i wondered if it was moles but have never been bothered with them when garden was lawn until i had it gravelled

I would say these are worm casts and you would only have soil round the edge of your gravel garden.
