If you can get hold of some manure - we add a layer occasionally and it works wonders! It speeds up the process, and makes great compost as well.
Oh, and by the way - Paul's right - but apparently it should be male urine. Something to do with hormones. I make no further comment!

I give mine a sprinkle of Blood and Bone every so often so it's well distrubuted through the depth of the bin.

People say that urine is good... your choice as to how it gets there :-)
The blurb I got with my new composter says the following :
Natural activators - Grass cuttings (but dont use too much), nettles, pond weed, seaweed, comfrey, horse, cow, sheep & pig manure
Bought activators - blood & bone meal, nitro-chalk & sulphate of ammonia. They recommend a product called 'organica' which is diluted and added
