Thank you. My lavenders have got woody - how far back can I cut into it, just to the first bit of green or even lower?

Personally, I took it back to the first green shoot, but I'm not an expert, (but I didn't kill them either!) I'm sure someone else can advise......

I don't know about heathers, but lavender won't sprout if you cut off all the leaves on a stem. I would leave at least 1/3 of the foliage.

Anytime now. I'm going to do my lavenders at the weekend. Trim off all the heads and shape them up a wee bit without cutting too far into the plant.
Although in the past I cut all the shoots back to almost ground hieght without much problems .... I just have too many now to waste the time!
Heathers though .... I think it MAY depend on when they flower.....
