So, every time you mow it, it turns yellow for a few days? Is it new this year, Byrnie? If so, it might have been seeded too closely. Otherwise, I would suspect that it was overdue for scarification--here in the States we call it "de-thatching".

I'd ask the same question as Tugbrethil - how old is the grass and was it originally turf or grown from seed?
