Hi folks, I have planted some Dahlia this year for the first time ever. However, the original flowers are now losing their petals. Do I dead-head or cut off at the bottom of the stem to encourage new growth? There are plenty new fresh buds on the plant.

Yes, nip off the old flowers before they set seed. That will encourage more blooms. Also, maybe plant some new tubers. They don't like the hot hot hot dog days of summer (neither do I). Here in NY temps soar above 100°F in July & August. My dahlias stall out & pick up again late August.
