This Cistus is very old and doesn't put on much growth yearly

This very large Cistus (right of the green pole) is 15 years old and doesn't put on much growth yearly. I'm wondering if I should give it a very severe prune in November to rejuvenate it.Perhaps this would encourage more flowers.

I had a feeling they were a little temperamental, Eileen....I think I will do as you say and only trim back a third.

I don't think they grow from old wood. I tried hard pruning one once and it died. It might be better to take cuttings and discard the old one.

i did that to mine and it died, though luckily i had taken a few cuttings first. So take some cuttings just in case.
