Hi...Two years ago I bought a small Weeping Cherry, which has flowered and is very healthy. I have recently noticed what looks like another trunk growing off the main trunk. It is about 4 inches in diameter but is growing straight up and is now about 3 foot high...what do I do about it, as it spoils the weeping effect of the main tree ?? I would appreciate any advice.

On closer inspection there seems to be one or two branches coming from the main stem. But they are not as long as the one I mentioned. Some are below the graft some are actually from the graft itself. Im sure I will have to cut them off do I need to treat the cut with any thing to deter disease ?? Thanks for you patience.

I wonder if the new growth is coming from below the graft union. Can you add a photo.
the stem will have a slight bulge where there graft point is. if this new growth is from below then it is root stock growth and should be ripped off or cut as close to the bark as possible.
