Please does anyone know what has caused these holes in the leaves of my otherwise healthy rhododendron?

Thank you SO much. I had vine weevils in a tree I bought from a nursery a few years ago. Thought I’d got rid of them. Apparently not!
Thanks again.

I thnk there will be other things nibbling than just vine weevils. have a closer look under the leaves for caterpillars too.

I thought that was what I had suggested. The damage does not look like Vine weevils to me.

yes I agreed with you as Janet implied she still had vine weevils :o)

Thank you for all comments. I thought this was rhododendron because the chap who gave it to me said so!!
I have looked under leaves - nothing - shaken them during darkness (over upturned umbrella - how I caught weevils last time) - nothing! Have given it a soaking of anti weevil solution, in case BUT we do have lots of snails etc (live alongside a field so) possibly they could be culprits, though no trails!
Pity because the plant is SO healthy otherwise.

Next question
Hi, can anyone identify this plant for me please? Many thanks. »
I would suggest that you go looking for a caterpillar. Vine weevils eat notches out of the edge of the leaves, rather than in the centre.
