Hi Callie, are you planning to plant through the membrane or just cover the membrane with pebbles/bark etc.

If you are planning to plant then you will need one that is porous to water. Go for the best quality you can afford is my best advice. We have some in the greenhouse that OH bought and personally I don't think it is very good. as weed seeds still germinate on its surface. Don't know which make it is though.

Hi Seaburngirl, I am just going to cover with bark, I worry if I plant through, these pesky little plants will be popping up as well, thank you very much for your advice, I will go for a good quality.

Sorry to say, but no matter the quality, membrane is a bad idea altogether. Weeds will grow on top of it and they are incredibly hard to remove once any roots get hold of the fibres in the membrane.
No matter how careful one is eventually the membrane begins to unravel and then you end up with an unholy mess.
Planting through it is far far less easy than the TV pundits would have you believe.
All in all it is just not a good idea.
Nor will it stop the Crocosmia. the will grow and either lift the membrane of push through it and then be even hard er to remove than ever.
Just my opinion and experience.

Thank you Owdboggy, I am not planting through, the crocosmia come under the fence from next door, and it is a nightmare, I just thought I would try the membrane , to see if it helped, but thank you for your help and advice, I know I will not win with it, but anything to make it a bit easier , perhaps I need a re think , thanks again.

Not an easy problem to deal with, best of luck.
Don't like doing it, but Glyphosate weedkiller would kill off the Crocosmia which come up on your side without killing the neighbours plants.

or place the membrane vertically down to at least a spade and a half's depth to form a barrier.

In my experience, Sbg's suggestion is best, and I would use the 32 mil heavy duty membrane used for making freeform ponds. Watch out for seedlings, if the neighbor doesn't deadhead regularly.

Thank you for the good luck Owdboggy, I think I am going to need it.
