I need to replace a trellis which is rotten and broken in places but I have a clematis armandii (apple blossom) growing on it . I pruned it to waist high in June and now it has made lots of growth. When is the best time to replace the trellis? Gwen Bragg

I would wait now, as it should flower in early spring. You could trim it back then after it's flowered, try to disentangle as much as you can, lay it down, replace the trellis and tie it back on. I hope you succeed.

How do I say thanks?
