ive just read an answer to a question re; you can take off the dead flower stem from a cordilyne. my hubby and i are debating whether to do that to ours now as he thinks it won't regrow.

The flower spike terminates the growing point making the Cordyline produce two or three new shoots at the top. Every few years it will flower and branch. Very old Cordylines end up with multi-headed domed branched crowns.
You can cut the flower spike off to keep it tidy. It would drop off eventually anyway.
