Do you know of a fragrant Jasmine that will not be too vigorous and overtake everything. It must also go onto a sheltered east facing wall. Merci

Not really- many of the Jasmines aren't entirely hardy and all the fragrant ones prefer south facing or full sun. Obviously common Jasmine (Jasminum officinale) takes over and grows prolifically, even though it may tolerate an east facing position.

Have you thought about honeysuckle? Lonicera periclymenum 'serotina' is highly fragrant and prefers dappled sun or some shade anyway.Otherwise, you could risk Trachelospermum jasminoides, though it really prefers more sun than is available on an east facing wall, but should cope. It does get quite large over time, but is generally much better behaved than J. officinale and can be pruned back to keep it in bounds.
