Christmas tree grown large
By Howgarden

About 25 years ago the children encouraged us to plant a Christmas tree after the festivities were over. Much to our surprise it took root. It is now over 30 feet high. It looks good and is oftten admired by friends and passers by. However, its roots are spreading and pushing up a little of the driveway. It is about 10 feet from the house. We don't really want ot get rid of it, but the roots worry us a little. Any advice?

I have to agree with Spritzhenry - Expert Opinion urgently required. This must be a lovely specimen by now - any chance of a picture so you can show it off to the rest of us?

Oh dear - my heart sank when I read how near to the house the tree is. How far away from the trunk are the roots in the drive? This will give you an indication of their current spread. You will have to consider whether the roots could be too close to your drains or even the house foundations - sorry, but I'd get expert advice as to whether this tree is likely to damage your property. You may have no choice as to whether it should go. I am sorry.
