Hi guys/ girls, I seem to have a problem. Recently I had a Jasmine that I've had for years, but this year it got covered completely in some sort of black sooty stuff. Now the same thing as happened on one of my shrubs, for some unknown reason it's only attacked the one shrub (so far) can anyone tell me what it is, is it dangerous and how do I get rid of it, if that's at all possible.

if its only a few leaves wipe them with a damp cloth soaked in washing up water. but as Owd says you need to solve the insect problem. Check for scale too as they also secrete honeydew.

Sooty mould. It usually grows on the honeydew produced by aphids (basically their urine).
Get rid of the aphids for a start. Then try spraying with soapy water.
