if the pot is large enough and you make sure you feed it it may be ok for a few years.

though they are always better in the soil really.

I've one at the moment and although it flowered quite well it would be better in the ground-- its difficult to stop it getting too leggy

My experience is that they use water very quickly in a pot, so definitely keep on top of it if you do!
