Echinacea from seeds
I understand that echinacea can be sown directly into the ground at this time of the year. However, the risk for me in my part of the world (west of Scotland) is that the plants may rot over our wet winters vefore they can properly establish themselves. So......
I was thinking of sowing them and letting them develop in pots. Then overwinter in a cold frame. I could then put them out next spring.
Does anyone know if this is likely to work? Or will they struggle over winter in the cold frame.

That is what I've done in the past so they should be fine. In fact I sowed my latest batch yesterday evening and as long as I keep them moist enough they will be potted up individually probably September and kept either in the unheated greenhouse or cold frame.
