umbria, Italy

i am planting a laurel hedge in umbria italy, the nursery says no fertilizer until next year. what do you say?

Plenty of well rotted compost or manure, you can put a dressing of bonemeal round each one after planting, this takes time to break down.

But no chemical fertilizers or fast acting organics, like chicken manure. It's too easy to burn the young roots. Alfalfa meal might be useful if the soil is exceptionally poor--doesn't sound like what I know of Umbria!

How do I say thanks?
