How can I protect my very old Conifer pear tree from my greyhound using it as a pee post? Will this damage the bark or roots if I do nothing? I have put lots of broken bark husks at the base.

I expect you mean a Conference Pear tree, do you? It should be OK, but why not keep some water to hand and wash it off at once?
Or - grow plants around the base so he can't get to the tree?
