I’ve recently been to Spain, the Valencia region, and saw this cone on the ground. The tree it had fallen from had glossy leathery leaves (I think) and deep crimson flowers. Does anyone know what the tree is called?

Certainly magnolia and there are ovaries that seem to have had seed in them as some look as if they have split open. Not a cone as such but a collection of parts.

Thank you. I picked the ‘cone’ which was the most complete thinking I’d spray it for Christmas but it’s so attractive I think I shall leave it alone.
Thank you again.

Looks like the remnants of a dead Magnolia flower rather than a cone but I could be mistaken.
