Why won't my bird flower

I have a bird of paradise I bought when I lived in Fla 4 years ago and it has never flowered I have lived in NE IL for 3 years can you help??

You say you have had this plant 4 years, as I understand it they can take 5-7 years before flowering. It can tolerate moderate temps but needs to be inside as soon as temps at nite drop to 55F, and they like to be crowded in the pot. I hope another member has more info for you.
