I've never heard that Jacque, I tend to grow the same flowers in the same spot year on year, perhaps just add some fertilizer to combat any soil depletion....

Only know that you shouldnt grow roses in the same spot ,but I always grow pansys in the same bed each year and they have been fine

I've still got some of LAST winter's pansies flowering away in the border! I'm waiting for the new ones to buy before I pull them out. They really have given me my money's worth, haven't they! And yes, Jacque, I shall be planting them in the same place! :-)

You'll have to tell your 'expert' that your friends don't agree with her/him. won't you! Thanks, Jacque, but I shall go back to the small family-run nursery, where I get 6 Pansies or Violas for £1.50!! She grows them all from seed and they are always good quality. I may have to wait a bit longer, though. I shall get yellow, purple and those very dark Violas again - for the back garden colours, of course!!!! I have a few Violas that seeded themselves! :-) Last year she had winter-flowering Calendula - they had small orange flowers but did flower right throught to the spring! Hope she's grown some more. They were also £1.50 for 6.

She does amazing value Fuchsias and Geraniums in the early summer - £1 each! The most expensive plants she has are £2.50. When she's asked why she doesn't charge more, she says she isn't in it for the money, she just likes doing it.... There isn't a whole lot of choice of plants but sometimes I find a little gem - like a white Lavender! She usually has pots of Verbena bon for £1 each when you have to pay about £4 - £5 at the G.C.! Oh and I visited a POSH G.C. in SW London at the weekend with my daughter - the prices were OUTRAGEOUS! £7 for a pot of Verbena bon, £41 for a Hibiscus syriacus and so on. And rusty furniture and old terracotta pots and ornaments for many hundreds of pounds, even into the thousands. I was so shocked that I didn't even think about buying anything! What a rip-off, just because it's in a wealthy area.

:O OMG even if i as Rich Spritz i wouldnt pay that or have my own gardener, id be 2 bored &moan 2 much @ them saying what theyv not done /or should do lol :)

Oh yes- there was an area where a garden designer had plants and shrubs and a lady was pointing and saying I think those and those and he was giving advice and suggesting others and was obviously going to sell her a whole lot which he would plant where he thought! I would not DREAM of having anybody telling me what to buy or let them decide where to plant things, would you? I dread to think what he charged, too!

NO WAY would i let some 1do that ! They may have their say of corse Spritz but itd still be done my way if i was`nt happy with their suggestions ; ) Great Doing Our Own Gardening is`nt it :D

DEFINITELY! This was one of the richest London Boroughs and a well-published Nursery so I was interested in seeing it. I won't be going back. Let the people with LOADS of money who just want a designer garden have it all to themselves. I don't mind!!! LOL.
