My red leaved NZ flax looks very sick with droopy browning leaves which clearly need cutting off (in spring) but if I do there will only be a stem left. Has the extreme cold and wet killed it or can it be revived?

It may re-sprout from the base, so I'd leave well alone until mid April. If it turns smelly and gooey in the next month or so, then it is dead and needs removing.
