This is growing at the base of my Salvia Hotlips which is looking very bare except for a few leaves. I'm hoping this is part of the shrub...could anyone identify the leaves please.they do look a littlelike Beech.On rubbing there isn't the familiar sage smell that Salvias have.

No need to fret, my Hot Lips has become a foxglove :-)

my royal bumble developed into a sycamore. blinking self sown seeds. both now out as salvia didn't come through.

I'd leave it until all risk of frost has gone then cut it back to the live stuff. It was -2 here first thing on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Leave the dead stems as they will offer some protection.
