3 of us were given for Christmas presants from our Great Grand Children, lovely vases of ready planted and decorated Amarylis, which were very exciting to water as directions and have the pleasure and excitement of watching it grow and produce the beautiful flowers. Unfortunately that did not happen. Every time we met we exchanged our reports on their growth which were all the same but unfortunately no flowers ever appeared, instead they died back in the natural way. I have given these Amarylis many times over the years to friends all with great results. they were always in boxes which the friends planted in pots themselves. are these ready prepared ones young bulbs which need 2 years to maturity and meant to be kept untill next year? if so I hope were all still alive to see the results as we are in our 80s and 90s.
its cused quite amusement, the thought was there.

well hello Thelma, lovely to hear from you. I was thinking about you the other day as the Hesperis you gave me years ago have self-seeded well and every year I get a great display.

I do think last year's weird weather may have affected the bulbs development. But as you say it is the thought that counts.

I see you are still an old stalwert of GOY. I have been so out of touch these past 3 years what with my new hip then 1 yr after a traumer fracture which they say will take 18 months to realy get back to what I could do, but my garden has kept me going, it is a wonderful healer but hard not to push the boundaries too much. Keep at it, My hesperis are a joy to see I have not dug my dahlias up for the past three years unable to dig and a few mild winters, but thank goodness they have appeard yet again in spite of that very sudden hard frost which killed a few shrubs for me. I will try and put a few recent photos on if I can computers have changed a good deal since I last used Goy.
