I planted an Eryngium a few years ago on the patio side of a raised bed. However, it was taking over so twice I dug it out - I thought! But no, now I have lots of little stems growing. So I sprayed with an extra strong weed killer. I did this several times but all that happens is that the small plants are deformed and digging them out is difficult standing on the patio as I can’t balance on the edge of the bed. I have the same problem with Welsh poppies - deformed stems but the darned things are still trying to flower. Lovely though they are I only have a small garden and I don’t want Welsh poppies smothering other plants.
What can I do?

I was afraid it wouldn't be easy SBG but was hopeful that someone had found a quick treatment. I'll allow the small stems to get a bit more leaf than blast them again with SBK. I must learn patience!

I thought SBK was for woody plants, trees and shrubs?

It might be SBG but the Japanese anemones don’t seem to like it. Whether the spray will actually kill it off is a moot point though. However, the label on the bottle just say extra strong weed killer so I live in hope.

dead head any flowers that do open so no more seed is made. Then spray the Eryngium mid summer with a glyphosate weedkiller from mid summer on. This will hopefully destroy the root stock over the autumn. Sadly you will have to keep doing this until it gives up.
