May I suggest that as this is such a huge subject, you also buy or borrow a book on growing vegetables. We don't know which ones you intend to try, and obviously there are a lot of different kinds.

I'd recommend the Dr Hessayon 'Expert' one - it's one of a series, and they're all very helpful.
