Identify how? It's an apple, Malus, as you have stated

If you want to identify the actual variety then you will have to wait until it's fruits ripen

If so, take photos now of leaves and blossom to help with later identification after fruit ripens & has been tasted

Of course, it could be just another unnamed seedling.

I just needed to confirm that it is a Malus...growing in a friend's garden.Many thanks.
