How can i cut back a 10ft tall 3ft dia Heather : Grows on You

How can i cut back a 10ft tall 3ft dia Heather, probably a Erica arborea (Briar)?
Will it grow back from the trunk/branches?

Probably not. Most Erica's don't and even the larger species including this one I suspect are the same.

Shame smoking has gone out of fashion as the wood of this species apparently makes the best smoking pipes.
