ABUTILON suntense problem

I have a large ABUTILON suntense grwoing in the garden of a coaching inn that i run in suffolk. it normally flowers with great exuberence but this year nothing so far, will cutting it back give it a chance of survival and hope fully flower again next year?

I've been trying to look this one up in reference books for you - but they are not clear on how this shrub should be pruned. I suggest asking at your local Nursery for advice. Sorry - I did try!
