We burned all our Leylandi wood on an open fire when we had one going. Better than not burning it. You need a good spark guard though. I think it is one of those woods that spits bits out and makes a mess in the hearth. Best thing for Leylandi is up the chimney! When we had an open fire we relied on wood donations too. So a £30 blacksmith made sparkguard purchased at an antique centre was just the ticket. The old gentleman selling it said it had done him good service. He had it made to his specification, it was just the right size for our fireplace.

It is a softwood, Guest, but a very poor burner. When it is fully seasoned you could put just one log at a time on a woodstove where it will slowley smoulder away but, it is far from being the best.
