I have a large mound of top soil on the site of what is to become a rockery. To get the drainage layer in and layer the stone I must remove the mound of soil at least temporarily.
Question:How long can soil be temporarily stored on a tarpaulin on adjacent grass before the grass will be killed or damaged beyond restoration?

Perhaps a week before the grass goes very yellow. It will recover quickly though once it is given access to the light.

I wouldn't leave it more than about 3-4 days as late in the year as we are now ( assuming you are UK) as the grass has almost stopped growing and will take much longer to recover

Storing the soil on the driveway would be a better option.

Campsites seem to manage 2 weeks or so under peoples' groundsheets. When the tent is taken down the grass looks pretty rank, but usually recovers.

How do I say thanks?
