When pruning conference pears how can I tell the difference between a pear and a leaf bud ?

Don't worry just take it back to 3 or 4 buds from the start of the spur. The tree will see to the rest. By the way, next time to prune for shape is feb/march and summer prune, say august, or a bit before for early croppers.

Leaf buds are longer and thinner than the flower buds.
