Don't be surprised if it doesn't survive in the very low temperatures we're having. Sorry - but they're not particularly hardy plants. You could pile some dry compost up round it to give it a chance.

No - leave it all in place, the dead topgrowth will provide a bit of extra protection for the roots. Cut back in spring.
