What should I do about the 1.5 foot of snow covering everything? My main worry is the way the bushes are bending, I'm concerned that the weight of snow is too muchI've had some completely snap. Should I be going around knocking all the snow off?

a gentle shake by hand will lessen the weight on the plants ( dont wack them ) Plants out of reach can be 'Thribbled' gently with a broom or similar ;-) but yes, better to remove overly heavy snow if practical.
( I think we could all benefit from abit of thribbling in this weather LOL :-))

Consider yourself thoroughly thribbled Bampy!

I would have thought that given your location, you would want as much snow over your plants as possible. So what, if a few branches break or split. At least you will have something alive next year to prune. Without the snow, your frost protection is gone!

We've got heavy snow on our shrubs and will leave mother nature to remove and Jason says once that is gone so is your frost protection.

We have slightly less snow on our shrubs than Pam does in Midlothian but enough to make some of the shrubs look very unhappy. We choose to leave them alone and, now that our snow seems to have finished for the moment (fingers crossed), the shrubs are bouncing back and looking healthy again.

Thanks for the thribbling Nariz, warmed me up a treat LOL ;-))
& yes, the snow creates a perfect protective shelter for plants including humans should you ever be unlucky enough to get stuck in the stuff, it's a life saver !!

Thanks all - I think I'll knock the snow off the ones that are significantly bent but leave the ones that are still upright.

My honeysuckle had so much snow on it it has brought the fence between me and the neighbour down. An expense I didn't need. Hohum.

Most plants aren't visible anymore any I'm not sure how protective the snow has been with -15oC on my outdoor thermometer - fingers crossed for the thaw.
