When would be the best time to lay turf and what would be the best turf to get to withstand a grandchildren playing and picnicing in the summer months?
Best time to lay turf is actually October, assuming we're not waterlogged. However, you can actually lay it any time barring when the ground is frozen, and preferably not in December/January, so I'd aim for March, assuming you've been able to get on the land to prepare it ready for turfing by then.
Hardwearing turf should contain a high level of short leaved rye grass, don't order luxury turf, make it clear to your supplier that you require general purpose, hardwearing grass.
