Sorry going to disagree with you on this one. Far more likely that they didn't get enough water in the drought. When they are put in the water to cook they absorb too much. Try steaming them then this wont happen.

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES. WE DID HAVE A SPELL OF GOOD WEATHER IN SCOTLAND BUT PLENTY OF RAIN AS WELL!!. CROP WAS BEST EVER MOSTLY ROASTING SIZE. WILL TRY STEAMING. BRIAN

Inconsistant watering can have the same effect.

I "boil" potatoes in their skins.I bring them to the boil and then let them simmer not actually boil until they are cooked. Or you could microwave them.

They either got far too much water in the wet summer, Brian, or they were not Maris Piper in the Maris Piper bag!
