One other question i want to plant a holly hedge in the spring. is it neccesary to plant the male out of sight or will i still get berries if planted with the females ?

I believe that as long as there's a male and female bush within about 100 metres, that's OK, so next to each other - even better!

Out of interest, do you have wild rabbits in your area? If so, worth protecting your young plants as they love holly and will nip them off.
